The Silberhaus family, including young Clara and her mischievous brother Fritz, receive
guests for their holiday party. Clara's Uncle Drosselmeyer comes to entertain the children
with magic, producing dancing Ballerina Dolls, Rag Dolls and a wonderful toy Soldier.
Clara asks for the Soldier Doll, so Drosselmeyer magically shrinks it to a Wooden Nutcracker.
Clara dances with her new Nutcracker until naughty Fritz grabs it and pulls off its head -
but Drosselmeyer quickly fixes it and soon everyone is dancing together again.
After the party, Clara says good-night to their guests and goes to her room - but once everyone is asleep,
Clara sneaks downstairs to find her Nutcracker and falls asleep on the couch in the Living Room...
