In addition to strong recognition for creativity and drama in her choreography, Ms. Nilsson excels at identifying each dancer's technical potential at performance, and matching the challenge of her choreography to achieving the strongest possible individual and overall performance.  This applies to restaged as well as commissioned choreography, allowing the audience the most exciting possible performance, and - perhaps more importantly - demanding that each dancer perform to their highest potential while insuring that they can succeed.  Ms. Nilsson will work with your dancers to develop a proper balance of styles and technical difficulty.

Kristy Nilsson now has twelve short works available for restaging, ranging from four to twelve minutes, with from five to eighteen dancers - and a full-length Nutcracker that she has staged twice with great success.  Additionally, Ms. Nilsson has developed and is prepared to stage dramatic new one-act and full length ballets, including new versions of  Cinderella (Prokofiev), Scheherazade (Rimsky-Korsakov), Swan Lake (Tchaikovsky),   Firebird (Stravinsky), Romeo and Juliet (Prokofiev) and Dracula.  She also has music and thematic materials for a number of additional works ranging from one-acts down to five minutes, and also for solos for auditions or solos for competition.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who will set the work?

Generally, Kristy Nilsson will set the piece personally.  Her husband and partner, Scott Nilsson, acts as Regisseur - coaching dancers in technique, partnering, acting and character development.  When necessary, they can conduct simultaneous rehearsals in separate studios.  If available, a video of the work and copy of the music will be provided before Mr. and Ms. Nilsson arrive to allow the Company to learn the choreography ahead of time.

May we perform the ballet again without paying royalties?

Yes, all works purchased may remain in your Company repertory non-exclusively, in perpetuity.  Kristy Nilsson retains the right to set the piece on other companies, but your Company may perform the ballet again without express permission from Kristy Nilsson.

What is the cost? What does it include?

The cost of each piece is contingent on the length of the work.  The cost includes all rehearsal time with Kristy & Scott Nilsson, the video demonstration tape, the rehearsal and performance music, and professional lighting & costume design.  One half of the payment is advanced, the remainder at technical rehearsal.  Per diems and travel expenses will be arranged on a case-by-case basis.

What about costumes and props?

Your Company may create costumes and props (if any) with Kristy Nilsson’s approval.  If preferred, the costumes and props for certain works are available for rent from Ms. Nilsson or from the dance company on which the piece was originally choreographed.

May we film and/or sell videos of the performances?

Photography and video is allowed for rehearsal and promotional purposes only (video excerpts used for any promotional uses should be brief).  Any other photography and/or video is allowed only with expressed permission from Kristy Nilsson.  Photographs used in publicity and advertisements must be credited.

Must we get rights for the music?

A growing number of companies, venues and dance associations are requiring license rights for the composition and/or recording for dance performances.  Due to tremendous variations in the specifics of initial and successive performances (size of hall, ticket cost, nonprofit/for profit, number of performances, etc.) the responsibility to acquire rights to use music during performance(s) resides with the dance company or Producer, but we will be happy to assist in this.

What are the technical needs for the theatre?

Most theatres will accommodate all of Kristy Nilsson’s works.  For your convenience, each description lists any technical requirements for size of stage, crossovers, trap door, lighting instruments, etc.  The professional lighting design is often included with the work.

Will my Company have the right dancers for the work?

The number of dancers and technical level required is stated in each description.  The description also mentions the strengths (modern dance, pointe work, gymnastic background, charisma) that are desirable for each role.
